20250207 - Carolina Windom POTA test

long, flat with a tail

Today we were blessed with good weather… (actually it was pretty warm!)

Great day to be at the park! Good day to experiment and have fun!

I made a Carolina Windom antenna to test out. I have never ran an antenna off-center fed with a 4:1 balun, so I am interested in how they perform.

I did not take any pictures or have much information to add this go around, but I will say I was exctied about the results.

Here was the setup:

  • PARK: US-1038 - CHewacla State Park

  • GRID: EM72gn

  • ELEVATION: Approx. 450+ feet

  • RIG: Yaesu FT-891 + ATU100 tuner. Set to 20M band and 25W power output initially on SSB, up to 50W as the day ran on.

  • ANTENNA: New Carolina Windom with choke at feedpoint.

  • BATTERY: 12v 23Ah/300wH LiFePO4 - used 47wH for this 2h deployment.
